I hope this email finds you well. It’s student, the 2017/2018 recipient (Cohort 5). I’ve decided to send an update after my first semester at UC Berkeley. I took 16 units and obtained a 3.825 GPA! I plan on graduating Spring of 2021 with a Data Science degree! I do not plan on applying for any internships at the moment since I will need to take summer classes and work in order to survive and graduate on time, but when I do I will definitely update you all! I noticed that the AJ Wang website seems a bit outdated with the success stories/testimonials. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help, whether it be providing a testimonial or even be a remote peer mentor! I owe a large portion of my success to the funding from the AJ Wang Foundation, and I would love to give back!

I am writing this email to inform you that I have been accepted to USC and will be joining the class of 2022 starting this upcoming fall semester. I will thus no longer be eligible to receive the checks for the A.J. Wang Scholarship from this point forward. This Spring semester will be the last semester for me attending a community college. I have been accepted into Cal State San Bernardino and will be attending in the Fall. I wanted to let you know that I am finishing up my spring semester at Moorpark. I will be transferring to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the fall of 2018 and majoring in Journalism where I hope to fulfill my career as a News Anchor. I am so grateful to be an AJ Wang Scholar and to have the support and backing of such a great organization. I know this is long overdue, but I would really love to take the time and thank each and everyone of you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this AMAZING foundation! Thanks to the support you constantly gave me, I actually went through Los Angeles Valley College and now am transferring to Cal State University Los Angeles for Fall 2017. It is great knowing that I am actually the first person in my family to attend a 4-year university, and it is thanks to all of you for supporting me throughout my journey. I recommend this foundation to as many students as I can, because of the fact that you are constantly seeking ways to help students succeed. Thanks to this foundation, I didn’t need to stress with finances. It is truly a blessing how such this small foundation could make a BIG impact on my life. The AJ Wang Scholarship has been such a great blessing in my life. After getting off a long tiring Friday night from work, I arrived home to find myself with tears of joy and happiness running down my checks. I had lost count of all the different scholarships I had applied and only to have my heart crush being turned down from all! I can’t stop thanking God for giving me the opportunity of being a recipient to such an amazing, kind, and caring organization. This scholarship has had a great impact on not only my life but my family’s as well because with this scholarship it has been enough to cover school expenses and still be enough to help my family out. This scholarship has also served as a motivation to constantly push myself to achieve my goals. Despite not being able to earn very much at my extremely tiring job, this scholarship has given me hope. I was fortunate enough to receive the A J Wang Foundation Scholarship Fund . I greatly appreciate the monetary help they gave me during the hard times my parents were dealing with financially. This scholarship has reassured me into continuing my college career. I was able to pay for classes, buy books, and put gas in the car to take me to school, etc. I didn’t have to depend on my parents for help and they were very proud of me. This scholarship has been a life saver for not only me but my family. Because of this scholarship that was given to me, not only have I continued my education but have motivated my younger sibling in also going to college. My name is Michelle and I attend Cerritos College. I have been so fortunate to receive the AJ Wang Foundation Scholarship throughout my time at Cerritos. As a Kinesiology major, my science books tend to be much pricier however, with the help of the scholarship I’ve been able to afford all the books I need and still have money left over to participate in school activities and school field trips. I couldn’t be any more grateful for this scholarship, it has allowed me to dedicate more time to school rather than spending it at a minimum-wage job. Furthermore, I am much more grateful for the people who form part of the AJ Wang Foundation; not only do they give financial support, they also give personal support. They go out of their way to unite all AJ Wang Scholars in a special ceremony to celebrate our achievement. Thank you AJ Wang Foundation for all that you have done and will continue to do for us. I admire your support and it only inspires me to do the same for others. Thank you!

Attending community college with the aid of the AJ Wang Scholarship Fund has significantly reduced the financial stress that I would have had while attending college. This has allowed me to focus wholly on my studies when I would have otherwise had to also worry about managing my educational finances.

I would like to start off by thanking everyone from the AJ Wang Foundation. This scholarship has opened more opportunity then I could imagine. It has allowed me to focus more time into my educational studies without having to attain a part time job to go to college. With this scholarship I am also able to purchase my own books, gas, food, and sometimes even treat my family out for lunch. I am a Mechanical Engineering student at East Los Angeles College applying for transfer in the fall of 2015; in hopes of transferring to University of California Davis. I strongly believe with hard work, commitment, and support is the key to becoming successful in any task. Hard work is our will to put in effort and time. Commitment is to face any obstacle and to never give up. Lastly, support is the most important because without family, friends, and organization, such as, the AJ Wang Foundation, it is difficult to realize how far we have come as young adults in achieving our goals. On the whole, this scholarship has helped me become more financially independent and I honestly would not be where I am at today without this amazing foundation. I am currently attending Ventura College as a first year college student and I am a proud recipient of the AJ Wang Scholarship. This scholarship has been so much more than a financial crutch. This scholarship foundation has given me the drive and the confidence to carry out my education in a way that I would not have otherwise. Coming from a low socio-economic background higher education was always a goal, but the financial means of getting to the goal were always an obstacle that put my parent’s wallets to shame. With the AJ Wang Scholarship along with other financial aid I was able to quit one of my two jobs and dedicate myself even more to being the best student I can possibly be.
Not only has this scholarship given me gas money to go to another city ever day for better education, bought me books necessary for my daily classes, and given me the ability to buy my supplies without worries, but it has also given me confidence in knowing I am not the only one who believes in my dreams. I know that this foundation believes in me and in a movement dedicated to the empowerment of society through education and awareness.
