Scholarship Fund Frequently Asked Questions
You will need to submit the actual application form, downloadable from the website at www.ajwangfoundation.org. In addition: a copy of your resume, a letter of application, and a high school transcript from grade nine through at least the first semester of your senior year will be required.
This is the letter you will write that includes the college of your choice, your aspirations, your achievements, and your financial needs. You may include other information that may demonstrate why you believe you should be selected for the Scholarship Fund.
Once the Donors’ Committee completes their review, selected students will receive an email with next steps.
You will be required to submit a complete high school transcript (an official one is not required) and the Fall semester registration document. In the event you are not selected, there is no appeals process and no further information will be given.
Funds will be awarded for at least two years as long as progress continues towards an associate degree, a certificate, or transfer credits to a four-year college or university. Consideration for an additional year of the award may be given if you continue with the third year towards your academic goal. A one-time award of $2,000 will be given if you transfer to a four-year college or university within two years.
You will need to maintain at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4-point scale and register and attend as a full-time student, which is at least 12 units per semester.
In previous years, it was a total of $2,000 a year, or $1,000 per semester. Starting with the 2023-24 academic year, the award is increased to $3,000 a year, or $1,500 per semester.
No, the check will be sent directly to the college you attend and applied to your account. Please check with your respective college’s office or the Foundation offices at Glendale, Pasadena, Santa Monica Colleges, once you are notified that the check has been sent.
You will need to work with your respective college on how the funds are to be disbursed. The AJ Wang Foundation Scholarship Fund does not dictate how the funds are disbursed by the colleges.
You will be notified when the submission must be completed. For the Fall semester, the deadline is August 15 and January 15 for the Spring semester.
This is dependent on how soon the required documents are sent and received by the individual students before the deadline. For continuing students, we will need both a transcript and registration document for the following semester for the duration of the awards.
Your college’s student information system should have a way to view your transcript with instructions on how to download and print. This is the same with your registration. Please do not send us information directly from your student information system as we will have no access to download the documents for you.
April 15-June 1 is the annual application period
